Sometimes you can’t escape the industry bug. I wonder if John Mackey might agree, as the Whole Foods Market Co-Owner is setting on a new venture. Although expected to retire from the retailer next month, Mackey has plans to help Healthy America, a startup, build a chain of plant-based restaurants and wellness centers.

Bloomberg recently reported that Mackey is listed as a partner in Healthy America. Since the start of the year, the company has raised $31 million in investments and will use the funds to continue leading its expansion in the industry.

Healthy America is backed by other former Whole Foods execs, including Chief Executive Officer Betsy Foster, who departed the grocery chain in 2020, and Walter Robb, former Whole Foods Co-CEO. Both are listed alongside Mackey as a partner.

Healthy America is described as an evidence-based lifestyle company that marries culinary, healthcare, and wellness, and is based in Austin, Texas.

Keeping an eye on which foodservice ventures will gain traction is par for the course at Deli Market News. Keep your eyes peeled for us!
