I’m sure I must sound like a broken record, but Winter Fancy Food Show (WFFS) is just around the corner. As I meander the expo floor, I’ll be watching closely for new products that catch my eye and make my heart beat a little faster. This year, Les Trois Petits Cochons is introducing new offerings that have landed on my mental must-see list, and with multiple snack lines boasting exceptional flavor and tradition, they are sure to wind up on shopping lists across the country.
The meat provider’s latest addition to its portfolio of products is a new line of Petit Salamis—dry-cured salamis made using a traditional French recipe, available in Classic Saucisson Sec, and Chorizo flavors. Just like all of its products, Les Trois Petits Cochons’ new offering is all-natural and gluten free, and contains no additives, antibiotics, nitrates, or nitrites. The line is made by hand in the U.S. and is geared toward on-the-go consumers, and will be available in three-ounce packages starting in Q2 of 2020. Even though the launch is several months away, the line is already generating significant buzz in the industry.
“While they haven’t been officially launched yet, we’ve already been seeing a huge interest from retailers,” Ada Desmond, Marketing Manager, informed me. “The market for high-protein, on-the-go snacking options without a ton of additives or artificial ingredients is still new and growing—consumers are becoming ever more educated, and especially when juggling a busy lifestyle—your own, your children’s—it’s hard to make sure that the food you buy ticks all the boxes: healthy, responsible, and delicious. We’re already renowned for charcuterie and for making products that are artisanal and all-natural, so this just made sense for us since we already make a line of traditional French dry-cured salami.
Les Trois Petits Cochons is well-known for its award-winning, all natural artisanal pâtés, mousses, terrines, sausages, saucissons, smoked meats, and other French specialties, beginning in 1975. Dedicated to producing high-quality food, the company has expanded its offerings over the years to include new products with a convenience-oriented twist.
“When considering the other options for meat stick snacks, the main options available are various forms of jerky. There are fewer options for mini salamis, and virtually nothing yet available in classic French charcuterie,” Ada said. “For a specialty product that is made with an artisanal ethos—handmade in small batches using time-honored French traditions—that is also conveniently packaged for a broad market, I’m hard pressed to find any alternatives out there.”
The company is also introducing a new flavor to its popular Sous-Vide Egg Bites line—Breakfast Sausage & Cheddar, which is made with pork sausage, cheddar cheese, and red and green bell peppers, available as a four-pack. The new flavor, with a rollout planned for Q1 2020, joins the six other varieties in the line, which includes Egg White with Broccoli & Parmesan, Spinach & Feta, Mushrooms & Swiss, Bacon & Swiss, Prosciutto & Gruyere, and Ham, Cheddar & Chili Pepper. And, as with all of its products, Les Trois Petits Cochons’ Egg Bites are made using the company’s signature all-natural and traditional practices.
“Other options for egg bites on the market are often made using sugar and additives—in fact, in many of them, the first ingredient isn’t even eggs! Ours have a simple, clean ingredient list: eggs, protein, vegetables, cheese, and cream,” Ada commented. “They are gluten- and sugar-free, whereas other options that are out there have a ton of artificial ingredients or the overuse of fillers (such as cottage cheese) as a binding agent.”
