The Mozzarella Company Divulges the Details of Innovative Cheesemaking Classes

Without education, our world would not be where it is today. We are constantly learning from each other and ourselves, making it possible to improve and set goals for ourselves. For those who are just making their way into the specialty food space, there is ample education to be had, and there is no better educator than specialty foods experts. The Mozzarella Company is one such expert, which launched cheesemaking classes over 17 years ago in order to educate up-and-coming cheese champions.

Ross Adami, Vice President, Mozzarella Company“The classes include an overview of cheesemaking in general, its history, and a behind-the-scenes tour of Mozzarella Company. Participants learn hands-on about making ricotta cheese and stretching Mozzarella (making balls, mozzarella rolls, and queso Oaxaca),” said Ross Adami, Vice President. “Classes are followed by a cocktail party, featuring a tasting of about a dozen of our cheeses along with red and white varietal wines. Participants are given an apron and all the cheese they make during the class, which is usually three to four pounds.”

Mozzarella Co’s general classes are for those 14 years old and up. The cheesemaker also recently began to offer dedicated “kids and parents” classes for children eight years old and up.

“Our goal has been to introduce participants to Mozzarella Company and educate them about how cheese is made, offering an interactive experience,” added Ross. “It’s also great PR for our company because participants love the classes and tell their friends about it. It is not unusual for participants to return for additional classes with friends and family in tow.”

When I asked what the inspiration has been for these cheesemaking classes, Ross humbly replied by noting requests from Mozzarella Co customers, further proving that there is a need for this kind of education.

“It has been quite profitable, and this has been a wonderful way to introduce class participants to our company,” Ross concluded. “Demand has grown from small classes every month or so, to sold-out classes of 20-plus participants offered six or more times per month. We also have greater demand for private classes.”
