Florida-based grocer Publix is expanding its hold in the South and spreading its way up North. After securing another location for its banner GreenWise in its home state, Publix is building a new flagship location in the state of Kentucky, a first for the retailer.
“Being company owners, Publix associates are committed to providing the highest level of service and quality products to exceed our customers’ expectations,” said Publix Chief Executive Officer Todd Jones. “Moving into Kentucky is a natural progression for our company, and we are excited to serve and be a part of this vibrant community.”
The retailer announced it has signed a lease to bring its first Publix Supermarket to the Bluegrass State earlier this week. According to the release, this will mark the company’s eighth state of operation. The new store will be located in Louisville, Kentucky, at the northwest corner of Terra Crossing Boulevard and Old Henry Road in Jefferson County, in the Terra Crossing shopping center adjacent to Publix Liquors, the first located outside the state of Florida.
With 55,702 square feet to operate on, the new Publix location is expected to open during the fourth quarter of 2023. The grand opening date will be announced once permitting and construction are finalized.
