Three cheers might not be enough for this celebratory news, as Roth® Cheese, part of Emmi Roth, announced it took home three awards for its specialty cheeses at the 2022 Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest.
“We feel a tremendous amount of pride for our team and the cheeses they craft,” commented Tim Omer, the company’s President. “Winning a contest right here in our backyard, amongst some of the finest cheeses in America’s Dairyland, is a tremendous achievement [and] recognizing the hard work of many.”
The contest was held on June 23 at the Wisconsin State Fair Park in West Allis. Dairy manufacturers from all over Wisconsin submitted over 300 entries across 40 classes. Categories included cheese, sour cream, butter, yogurt, and milk.
There, noted the release, Roth Cheese swept first and second place in the smear ripened cheese category with its signature alpine-style cheeses, Roth Grand Cru® and Roth Grand Cru Reserve. The Wisconsin-based cheesemaker also earned second place in the blue-veined cheese category with Roth Buttermilk Blue®.
These wins continue Roth Cheese’s domination in the smear ripened cheese class. At the 2021 contest, Roth Cheese took home all three placings in the category, and also swept the category at the 2017 U.S. Championship Cheese Contest. Roth Buttermilk Blue also continued its tradition of nabbing the top three finishes, continued the release, having won the category in the 2021 Wisconsin State Fair Dairy Products Contest.
This year’s winning cheesemakers will be recognized during the Blue Ribbon Dairy Products Auction at the Wisconsin State Fair on August 11, where the 2022 Grand Master Cheesemaker will also be named.
Congratulations all around!
