As a trade news writer, you’re prepared to write about a variety of industry upsets, but perhaps none has rocked the foundation of our supply chain as much as COVID-19 has. However, in the wake of crises such as this, companies step up to bat to better both the communities in which they operate as well as the customers they supply to. One such company is Silver Fern Farms, whose Director of U.S. Sales, Matt Luxton, sat down with me and shared how the meat provider is doing all it can to be an exemplary supply partner.
“As we go through this challenging time together, Silver Fern Farms remain committed to providing the best quality beef, lamb, and venison for our global customers and consumers,” Matt began. “We are doing everything possible to protect our people and our Silver Fern farmers, and are single-minded in conducting our business safely and responsibly. We are classified as an essential service by the New Zealand government and will continue to keep our operations and supply chain running throughout this global crisis.”
With 14 processing plants around New Zealand, Silver Fern Farms has the ability to balance capacity across its network while working closely with farmers to maintain its stringent animal welfare standards.
“This helps us ensure continuity of supply for our global customers. We know just how important it is to continue to produce safe and nutritious food for consumers, and to support our retail customers to keep their shelves stocked,” Matt remarked.
As demand continues to climb, Matt also explained to me how Silver Ferns is being proactive in keeping supplies at the ready.
“Silver Fern Farms is working closely with our production and distribution partners to minimize disruptions to our supply chain. We will continue to supply our retail customers with premium grass-fed beef, lamb, and venison, and back our retail program with marketing activities that raise awareness of our product range and lets consumers know which retailers and stores they can purchase it from,” he comments.
The premium retail packs are ideal for shoppers who are looking to stock up during this unprecedented time. Each pack is vacuum-sealed, which enables a longer shelf life and promotes food safety.
“Our 25 day shelf life gives retailers a longer window to sell and manage stocks and in a time when consumers are stocking up on food, a longer shelf life has benefits for reducing the corresponding risk of food waste,” Matt concludes. “We have capacity to supply our premium retail packs to additional retailers in the New York tri-state area for any retailers that are struggling to keep their meat cabinets stocked with their current offerings.”
Deli Market News will continue to report on how our fearless industry members are working overtime to ensure that the supply chains needs are met.
