Come September 5–7, industry members will be gathering for the UC Davis Olive Center's International Olive Sustainability Conference (IOSC). The organization recently announced that the program for the event is now available on the IOSC website. Presenters from 10 countries will share research and projects that focus on the role of the olive in a sustainable future.
Adaptation to a changing climate and the need to conserve resources like water are issues that touch all aspects of our lives, but agriculture is especially impacted, a press release stated. The IOSC will benefit farmers who are considering planting olives or transitioning their existing groves to regenerative or organic farming and olive millers looking for better by-product management strategies.
Olive oil producers who want to tell the extraordinary sustainability story of the olive will expand their knowledge at the event. The farm-to-fork scope of the conference means that food professionals and conscious consumers who are seeking deeper knowledge of their food will find the IOSC to be a relevant and interesting experience.
The three-day agenda will feature research presentations, panel discussions, and case studies on topics that include soil health, biodiversity, advanced technology, utilization of mill by-products, and input management. Other topics include sustainability certifications, mitigating and adapting to climate change, and how to add value in the marketplace.
Promoting health with a planet-friendly, plant-forward diet will be addressed during a half-day at CIA at Copia in Napa. Chef demonstrations, presentations, and tastings will showcase the delicious possibilities of olive oil as the cornerstone of a healthy diet. This event will bring together farmers, producers, foodservice and retail professionals, importers and distributors, the culinary community, and passionate olive oil consumers.
