Whole Foods Market is one retailer that hasn’t shied away from expansion or innovation, and the grocer isn’t stopping now. Looking to further strengthen its presence on the East Coast, the company has announced it will be opening a new location in Avon, Connecticut, on September 1.

The new 44,760-square-foot store’s assortment will place emphasis on local products from the New England area, hand-picked by Whole Foods Market North Atlantic’s Local Forager, Holly Long, according to a press release.

The new Avon Village store will feature a full-service seafood counter and butcher; a specialty department dedicated celebrating cheesemakers, artisan producers, accoutrements, and specialty foods like chocolate; grocery products from local producers; a prepared foods section; and a pizza counter.

As noted in the release, all food at Whole Foods Market must meet the company’s rigorous quality standards, which prohibit hydrogenated fats, high-fructose corn syrup, and over 100 flavors, colors, sweeteners, and other ingredients commonly found in food.
