I’m not much of a sports gal—I like to attend sporting events for the food, not the game (don’t come after me sports fans; let me enjoy my pall bark dog in peace). But apparently sports fans and I have more in common than I originally believed. According to the Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin, Americans will purchase up to 88 million pounds of cheese before the Super Bowl, half of which will be purchased by yours truly.
“When it comes to football, Wisconsin cheese is a staple for every party and tailgate,” said Suzanne Fanning, Senior Vice President, in a recent press release. “Everyone’s favorite snacks and food include cheese, from pizza, nachos, and hamburgers, to chili, queso dip, and cheeseboards. Look for the Proudly Wisconsin Cheese™ badge in stores nationwide when stocking up for football festivities.”
The Super Bowl marks the biggest food holiday of the year, second only to Thanksgiving, the press release noted. According to IRI data, cheese sales go up 10% in the lead-up to the big game.
If you’re looking for ways to incorporate more cheese into your diet—because honestly, who isn’t—Dairy Farmers of Wisconsin has got you covered. From Super Loaded Sheet Pan Nachos to Asiago White Turkey Chili, the recipes from its Grate.Pair.Share online magazine will have you racing off to the store to purchase whole vats of cheese before game day. (Or maybe that’s just me.)
See you in the grocery line, fellow cheese lovers! I might not care who wins the Super Bowl, but I'm down to intercept some cheese-y dishes.
