The American Cheese Society Brings Its Cheese Camp Back to New England for the First Time in Almost a Decade

DENVER, CO

For the first time in almost a decade, the American Cheese Society (ACS) is bringing its annual Conference & Competition to New England.

Themed “ACS Cheese Camp 2015: Craft, Creativity, Community,” this will be the 32nd annual ACS Conference & Competition.

“As a well-known foodie haven of the East Coast, Providence, R.I., is the ideal locale for “ACS Cheese Camp,” which is centered around three cornerstones of the American cheese industry: craft, creativity, and community,” the society commented in a press release. “This theme reflects the excitement and growth of the artisan and specialty cheese industry throughout the Americas.”

The four-day-long conference reportedly provides all those who attend with an opportunity to enjoy opportunities for education, tasting, and networking opportunities. According to the release, more than 1,000 cheese industry members are reportedly expected to attend, including cheesemakers, retailers, distributors, importers, specialty food producers, and (of course) cheese enthusiasts. The itinerary includes:

  • Hosting the 4th annual ACS Certified Cheese Professional® Exam, the only one of its kind, with 406 ACS Certified Cheese Professionals® currently throughout the United States and Canada, and more than 250 candidates that will sit for the exam in Providence.
  • An interactive opening session facilitated by fourth generation restaurateur Mark Canlis.
  • An Opening Reception hosted by Marquee Sponsor the Vermont Cheese Council.
  • The latest regulatory news from Dr. Susan T. Mayne, the new Director of FDA's Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition.
  • The popular “Meet the Cheesemaker” event, where attendees can learn about and taste cheeses directly from producers.

Educational and tasting sessions are offered throughout the Conference, as well as regional tours, chances to meet with Scholars-in-Residence and a Business Strategist-in-Residence for business consultations or one-on-one cheesemaking, and more.

The camp takes place from July 29 to August 1, 2015, at the Rhode Island Convention Center and various locations around Providence. Early bird registration is now open.
