Atalanta’s Lenberg Farms’ Tania Toscano Sheep’s Milk Cheese has earned its place among one of the top 58 cheeses in the world during the 2013 World Cheese Awards. It won a Super Gold Medal in the Ewe’s Milk category. This is its seventh major award since 2011 and its first European title, according to a press release.
Last year’s Grand Champion, the Dehesa de Los Llanos Queso Manchego Gran Reserve and Beemster Aged, were also named amongst the top cheeses in the competition. Aside from Beemster Aged winning its third Super Gold medal, Beemster was also awarded Gold Medal honors for its Extra Aged cheese and 4-Month Goat cheese.
Other winners included Quickes Vintage Cheddar (Gold), Latteria Perenzin Caciottona Capra in Foglia di Noce (Silver), Quickes Oak Smoked Cheddar (Silver), and Agour’s Petit Agour (Bronze) and Ossau Iraty AOP (Bronze).
The World Cheese Awards is one of the largest cheese competitions in the world, featuring over 2,700 entries from over 30 countries. Over 200 judges took part in the affair.
