Beer & Cheese Pairings: Litehouse's Simply Artisan Reserve™

SACRAMENTO, CA

Welcome to this week’s Beer and Cheese Pairings. For this installment, I’ve mixed things up a bit and paired Litehouse’s Blue and Gorgonzola Simply Artisan Reserve™ cheeses with three diverse and distinctive craft beers. Let’s jump right in!

BEERS:

Drake’s Denogginizer is an Imperial India Pale Ale. It is a bold beer hopped with an abundant amount of dank, citrusy American hops. Its Crystal and Munich malts add color and a subtle caramel malt flavor to balance the hops.

Ruhstaller’s 1881 Indigenous California Red Ale is a true California Red Ale with all of its ingredients hailing from the Golden State. It showcases the lively character and floral aromatics of California-grown hops followed by a clean, crisp finish.

Lagunitas’ Imperial Stout is made with highly roasted malted barley to give it an uncommon richness and smoky, roasty depth. It has a heavy dark flavor with sweeter malts shining through at the finish.

CHEESES:

Simply Artisan Reserve™ Blue Cheese Center Cut from Litehouse is a rich, creamy cheese made from a single source milk. It is aged 100 days for optimum flavor and is hand turned and salted. This strong and delicious blue held its own against these three bold beers. It paired the best with the Stout, followed by the Red Ale and IPA respectively. The boldness of the blue paired with the richness of the Stout and created a beautifully balanced and delicious mix that the other two pairings could not match.

Simply Artisan Reserve™ Gorgonzola Cheese Center Cut from Litehouse is a sweet, soft and creamy cheese with a distinctive aroma. This cheese is also aged for 100 days and hand turned and salted. It has a butter texture and a nice, nutty finish. It paired the best with the Red Ale, followed by the Stout and the IPA respectively. The subtly sweetness of this cheese was enhanced by the lively aromatics of the Red Ale’s hoppy, crisp finish. The Stout made for a close second but didn’t quite match the balance.
