Welcome to this week’s Beer & Cheese Pairing. I’ve chosen three strong flavored cheeses to pair with Ruhstaller’s Cudera. I’m excited to share these with you, so let’s jump right in.
BEER: RUHSTALLER’S CUDERA
Cudera is a premium beer brewed with the addition of Cabernet Sauvignon grape must (freshly pressed fruit juice that contains the skins, seeds, and stems of the fruit) from vineyards in Napa Valley. The lighter, floral flavor should provide a sweet contrast to the cheeses in the pairings.
CHEESES:
Hook’s Five Year Sharp Cheddar from Hook’s Cheese Company is an extra sharp cheddar with a full, rich flavor. This cheese is made from milk from Wisconsin Cows and aged in curing caves for 5 years. This delicious offering paired nicely with the Cudera. The sharpness of the cheddar overpowered the beer a bit, but it still made for a good pairing.
Brebirousse d’Argental from Murray’s Cheese is a silky, full-flavored cheese with a creamy and nutty flavor. It is made in Lyon, France, from pure pasteurized sheep milk. This cheese was my favorite of the day, as well as my favorite pairing with the Cudera. The savory tones balanced perfectly with the sweetness of the beer.
Schloss from Marin French is a pungent and robust Austrian style washed rind cheese. Its smooth texture was delicious spread across a firm bread or cracker. When paired with the beer, the lightness and flavor of the Cudera overpowered the cheese.
