Cabot Creamery Cooperative has announced it will sponsor the Grilled Cheese Invitational, to be held on April 20, 2013 at the Los Angeles Center Studio.
"We are extremely excited to once again be part of the world's foremost grilled cheese competition," says Candace Karu, Cabot's Favorite Foodie and Lifestyle Commentator, and one of the executive judges for the Grilled Cheese Invitational competition. "Being a part of the Grilled Cheese Invitational (GCI) is a unique opportunity for our farmers to share the Cabot brand with our good friends on the west coast. We had such a positive response last year, and look forward to sharing the 'World's Best Cheddar' with even more people at this year's event."
The cooperative has won nearly every major award for best-tasting cheddar and has captured numerous "World's Best" cheddar titles in national and international competitions including the World Championship Cheese Contest, World Cheese Awards, US Championship Cheese Contest, and the American Cheese Society.
Interestingly, the cooperative also holds the Guinness® World Record for The World's Largest Grilled Cheese Sandwich (November 2000 in Everglades City, FL, weighing 320 lbs.) and The World's Largest Mac & Cheese (September 2010 in New Orleans, LA, weighing 2,469 lbs).
The Grilled Cheese Invitational started in 2003 as a friendly bet between Founder Tim Walker and a group of his closest friends, and has grown into a national movement dedicated to perfecting the art of grilled cheese. This year's event – April 20, from 11AM to 6PM - is slated to be the best ever, featuring more than 200 competitors, 20 food vendors, multiple breweries, and a performance by the legendary Richard Cheese and Lounge Against the Machine.
