Castello Cheese Celebrates the Art of Cheese at Grand Central Terminal

NEW YORK

New York City's Grand Central Terminal and Castello® cheese put out a call for hungry art lovers last Thursday and Friday, June 26th-27th, with their “Eat the Art” showcase. There famous still-lifes were paired with pop-up, ready-to-eat cheese replicas made from Castello® cheese, a premier maker of fine artisan cheese. The two day event allowed visitors to interact with these famous works by artists such as Jean-Baptiste-Simeon Chardin, Raphaelle Peale, and Antoine Vollon in a new and unique way: by eating them

"Innovation, tradition and the art of cheese making have been Castello® hallmarks for more than 120 years," said Susan Burris, Castello® brand manager. "Like the artists showcased at our one-of-a-kind gallery, Castello® is fueled by creativity and a passion for discovery. We are delighted for food lovers to experience the art of creatively crafted cheese as we bring Castello® to life upon a new canvas."

Since the 19th century when company founder Rasmus Tholstrup first began making Castello® cheeses, the business has had a reputation for quality and craftsmanship. Castello® thought the exhibit was the perfect opportunity to highlight this proud tradition.

Scott Gries, a photographer for the Gothamist, snapped some incredible pictures of the work of Jim Victor and Marie Pelton, two renowned food artists who have had their work featured in the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. They spent the two days sculpting a cheese replica of an Amtrak station out of Castello® Alps Selection Hirten cheese.

"We are honored to be a part of this unparalleled gallery experience," said Victor. "Connoisseurs of fine food and art alike will delight in the aesthetic of the realism and post-impressionism art and the delectable taste of Castello® creatively crafted cheese."

In addition to enjoying the fine cheeses and still lifes on showcase at “Eat the Art”, attendees had the opportunity to sample one of the Castello's® new cheese varieties, Aged Havarti. According to a press release, this delectable cheese is unique for its buttery, nutty flavor profile, and will be available in U.S. stores starting in August.

Congratulations on the sucessful event Castello®!
