John Morrell Continuing Fight to End Hunger with Charitable Donations

LISLE, IL

John Morrell is continuing its efforts to help fight hunger with donations to Catholic Charities Food For All in Spokane, Washington with the help of Rosauers Stores and to Utah Food Bank with the help of Associated Food Stores.

According to a press release, both Rosauers Stores and Associated Food Stores each donated over 2,700 servings of John Morrell ham to help fill the need for the food bank.

In 2013, John Morrell announced that it was joining its parent company, Smithfield Foods, in supporting No Kid Hungry® campaign, which is working to end childhood hunger in America.

“Our partnership with the No Kid Hungry campaign is an excellent way for us to help make a difference and to help get children and families the food they need,” said Chuck Gitkin, Vice President of Marketing and R&D, John Morrell Food Group. “Giving back to the communities in which we work and live and in particular, supporting the fight against hunger, is important to all of us at John Morrell.”

One in four kids in the state of Washington struggle with hunger, and Catholic Charities Food For All partners with No Kid Hungry to help provide a solution.

"Partnering with the No Kid Hungry campaign allows Catholic Charities Food For All to integrate vital nutrition education experiences into our efforts addressing food insecurity," said Brian Estes, Program Coordinator at Catholic Charities Food For All. "The donation by John Morrell and local partner Rosauers is a tangible and immediate resource that reflects a coordinated effort to fight hunger in our community."

In Utah, one in five kids also struggle with hunger. The No Kid Hungry campaign supports access to free meals in the summer and empowers families with skills to prepare healthy and affordable meals.

"Utah Food Bank is incredibly grateful for such an important donation of rarely-available highly nutritious meat products," said Ginette Bott, Chief Development Officer, Utah Food Bank. "This donation comes at a critical time of need for the 444,000 Utahans facing hunger, and we are proud to be able to make the holiday season just a bit brighter for Utahans in need. This ongoing support from John Morrell and Associated Food Stores has had a tremendous impact on hunger in Utah, and we look forward to continuing this tradition into the future."
