EASTON, PA
What would you do with 30,000 pounds of bacon? That is the very question the organizers and attendees of the 3rd annual Easton Bacon Fest, one of the preeminent bacon festivals in the world, are having to ask themselves as they prepare for the November 8th and 9th bacon-themed extravaganza.
While it might seem hard to believe, there are real questions being asked about whether or not 30,000 pounds of bacon will be enough. In its inaugural year, Bacon Fest was tapped out by 11:30 am. Festival organizers were better prepared, but even then, the 17,000 people who attended devoured the festival's bacon 1 pm.
This year, thanks to a mention in Fest 300 as one of the top 300 festivals in the world, organizers are preparing for crowds in the neighborhood of 50,000 people. When they arrive, they'll be greeted by 130 vendors, including 17 food trucks and 42 farmers' market vendors, and of course bacon. A lot of bacon.
"We are not going to run out of bacon," Easton Farmers' Market Manager Megan McBride insisted to Lehigh Valley Live.
With events ranging from “Hog Heaven Bacon Cupcake Competitions” to a “Bacon Cocktail Competition,” to a “Bacon Bowl Game Day Bacon Dip Contest,” I know that this is one event that I'll have to put on my bucket list.
