Whole Foods Market is proud to announce that, of the 121 cheese mongers to pass the American Cheese Society Certified Cheese Professional exam, 70 were from the market’s Canada and U.S. stores. Whole Foods is the retailer with the largest number of certified cheese experts in North America, according to a press release.
Passing the exam demonstrates advanced knowledge of cheese, including ripening, storage, handling, and nutrition facts. “We are so proud of our cheesemongers for passing this inaugural exam, not only demonstrating their passion for their craft, but also making Whole Foods Market the leading retailer in terms of cheese expertise,” says Cathy Strange, global cheese buyer for Whole Foods Market. Eliza Brown, Specialty Coordinator for the Whole Foods Market North Atlantic region and member of the group of individuals to pass the exam, adds, “It is so important that as cheese professionals, we continue to work as a group to elevate the standards and strive for further education.”
The exam was held during the 29th Annual American Cheese Society conference on August 1, 2012. Certification remains valid for three years and is renewable.
