Nailing down trends is hard work. Even I find myself falling behind the times, and I’m a millennial! Especially in the food production and retail industries, identifying food trends among consumers is essential to developing and marketing products that will excite shoppers. This year, the International Dairy Deli Bakery Association (IDDBA) has returned with a What’s in Store report for 2019. With this handy guide, it’s easier than ever to keep up with consumers.
The IDDBA analyzes hundreds of findings in the 2019 report, outlining the latest in food, in an effort to study consumers’ needs and offer insight in how to deliver on those needs. Consumers are growing increasingly discerning in their food purchasing, and the 2019 report examines the deli, dairy, and bakery industries to get to the bottom of what will keep shoppers coming back for more. The What’s in Store Online report is even more thorough, containing over 150 downloadable graphs and tables.
Among this years’ findings was the discovery of some core elements that will be driving the food trends all year long. Health is a main concern among consumers, who look for ingredients like turmeric and ginseng that contain nutritional benefits. Nostalgia drives consumers to turn to classic recipes and comfort foods. Adventure in food is becoming increasingly more common, as consumers seek out global spices or local foods. Nature is also a top concern for consumers, who look to get back to the basics with aromatic herbs, seeds, and artisanal goods.
The What’s in Store 2019 report is free with IDDBA membership, and for members it is only $99 to purchase additional copies. Non-members will have to shell out a bit more, however—the purchase price is $399.
