As we head further into 2019, many deli, dairy, bakery, and specialty food companies are showcasing just what is possible in our industry. From new takes on timeless classics to fresh ideas never-before-seen, our industry is introducing a whole other realm of possibilities that exist across all categories.
I had the opportunity to see for myself where Champignon North America is taking the cheese category next, chatting with Mike Hatch, Executive VP of Sales, about a few of the company’s newest products.
“This year, we have a really exciting new product that’s called Rougette Bonfire – Cheeses for Grilling,” Mike shared with me. “Grilling is a trend in the U.S. that seems to be growing year after year. And so, we did a lot of market research in the last year and a half that really pointed us in this direction, and this is the result of all that effort.”
The line includes two products. The first is a soft-ripened cheese that consumers can put directly on the grill to crisp the outside up. The second is a grill-able semi-soft cheese that is marinated with five different herbs in oil. Both, when grilled, ooze a buttery flavor that consumers are sure to love.
While these two new cheeses are what this industry reporter's dreams are made of, Mike pointed to another feature of the line that he believes to be the real kicker.
“The packaging is what’s really exciting because we’re really drawing attention to how we actually use the cheese,” Mike revealed. “And so the outside of the packaging has got fire and grill marks on the product so it’s drawing attention to the entire category of grilling cheeses.”
