Oh, the places you’ll go and the eats you’ll eat when you report on bread, meat, and cheese! Just last week, San Francisco played host to oodles of companies bringing the best of the best snacking to the West Coast. From never-before-seen treats to classic deli fare, this industry reporter had never seen so many scrumdillyumptious wares. While there was so much to browse, peruse, and choose, here are but five that shined as my taste buds’ new muse.
Tia Lupita Foods Cassava Chips
If my dad taught me anything growing up, it’s that living life with one hand in a chip bag is the only way to do it. And, with Tia Lupita Foods’ Cassava Chips, shoppers and Webb’s alike will have a new snack staple they won’t be able to take their hand away from. A healthy alternative to the category’s typically greasy, artificially-flavored, finger-staining offerings, Tia Lupita’s chips are plant-based, non-GMO, and gluten-free and feature truly unique ingredients: cassava and cactus—a winning combination if I ever saw one.
Mt VIKOS Single Serve Feta
The old adage “sharing is caring” doesn’t apply anymore in this convenience-forward world. Shoppers want quick and easy options that travel well with them when they’re on the go, and Mt VIKOS’ Single Serve Feta line does so in style thanks to the elegant packaging that encases this luxurious cheese. The brand’s newest feta line pares down its classic offering into a smaller single-serve snack that’s definitely what the cheese aisle (and my purse) has been missing. While this feta is currently available all by its lonesome, the line will soon expand to include packs of five, which I guess you could share with your friends just to refute me.
RX Nut Butter
If you have skin in the protein bar game, you’re probably no stranger to RX. A trend in and of itself, RX is bumping its sleek look and simple-ingredient take up a notch and expanding its product line to include peanut and almond butters. But, unlike other butters, RX is innovating the category by adding flavors like maple, vanilla, and honey cinnamon to its line of spreads—one of the many reasons I hovered at the RX booth for so long tbh.
Pocasville Dragon Fruit Chips
Pink is my favorite color, and so naturally, all goodies that are blessed with its hues catch my attention (and heart!) instantly. I’ve also long been a fan of dragon fruit—yes, partly because of its bright magenta coloring—but never had the experience of enjoying it in chip form until one fateful afternoon at WFFS. Subtly sweet but with a crunch that can’t be missed, Dragon Fruit Chips are what my dreams are made of and, I’ll just call it now: 2019 is this innovative snack’s year.
Parmela Creamery Nut Cheese Spread
Vegans represent! While I’m too weak to kick my cheese addiction and embrace that vegan lifestyle, I stand in solidarity with my fellow meatless eaters in celebrating any and all additions to the plant-based cheese collection—and I’m bringing out all the bells and whistles to celebrate Parmela Creamery’s Nut Cheese Spread line. Creamy and satisfyingly cheese-like, two traits many crafters in the cheese substitute realm have just grazed, this cashew-based line is what all crackers, toasts, and charcuterie boards have been missing.
