Anthony “Tony” Vernon, previous CEO of Kraft Foods, has joined WhiteWave Foods Company’s Board of Directors.
The former Kraft Foods leader was on its board up until May of this year, and served as its CEO for two years, from 2012 to 2014.
“We are excited Tony will be joining WhiteWave’s Board of Directors and are fortunate to add someone with a strong background in the consumer products industry and deep operational experience,” Gregg Engles, Chairman and CEO of WhiteWave Foods Company, stated in a press release.
Prior to serving as Kraft’s CEO, Vernon was the company’s President for three years, joining the company after working as a Partner for the private equity firm Ripplewood Holdings LLC.
Vernon also ran independent business units and led several successful consumer brands for 23 years working for Johnson & Johnson, all adding up to what WhiteWave said brings both significant leadership experience and a deep knowledge of the consumer goods industry.
“Tony’s qualifications and leadership experience further strengthen the board’s ability to oversee WhiteWave’s growth initiatives and provide additional perspective that will serve our company and shareholders well,” Engles said.
Those growth initiatives have been quite evident this year, according to the Denver Business Journal. In August, the company announced that it's buying Wallaby Yogurt Company Inc. for about $125 million, and in June it anounced the acquisition of the Canadian powdered shake and snack bar company Vega for $550 million.
