Texas Cattle Thief Marvell Galloway Captured in Ohio

FORT WORTH, TX
Thursday, April 7th, 2016

The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association (TSCRA) have captured a man that it has been on the hunt for since 2013.

Last week the TSCRA offered a $500 cash reward for information that could lead to the capture of suspect, Marvell Galloway, 57, of Carthage, Texas.

The investigation has been led by TSCRA Special Ranger Larry Hand, with assistance from TSCRA Special Ranger Toney Hurley, Panola County Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Ivy, and Investigator James Ferris.

“This suspect was arrested due to a tip from the TSCRA Operation Cow Thief Hotline,” said Hand in a press release. “This proves how well the system works and how valuable it is for citizens to communicate with authorities. TSCRA appreciates Panola County Sheriff Kevin Lake, Sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Ivy and Sandusky Police Det. Sgt. Dana Newell for their assistance with this arrest and supporting the ranching industry in the southwest.”

After searching barn records over a wide area, Hand found that Galloway, who has an established criminal history in Texas, Oklahoma, and Arkansas, had sold four head of cows at the Emory Livestock Auction on Feb. 19, 2013.

The victim whose livestock was stolen had found cattle missing from his herd after being away from his property in Carthage, Texas, for five days.

According to the release, Galloway was apprehended this week when a tip came on Monday, providing Hand with detailed information that the suspect was in Sandusky, Ohio. Within 30 minutes of reaching out to the Sandusky Police Department Tuesday, Galloway was arrested.

According to the release, Galloway is being held in the Erie County Ohio Jail on a preset $25,000 bond, awaiting extradition.

When he is transferred to the Panola County Jail, bond will be posted on the charge of theft of livestock of less than $100,000 with the likelihood of enhancement to a 2nd degree felony of exploitation of an elderly person.

Galloway faces a 1,047 mile return to Texas to face justice in the court system, while the TSCRA stated that the person who provided the tip through the Operation Cow Thief hotline will be compensated.
