Making good on its previously announced investment into a new processing plant, Tyson Foods, Inc. has secured its next step and broke ground on the 200,000-square-foot processing facility in Green Forest, Arkansas.
“This project would allow us to better serve our foodservice customers through improved product mix and greater efficiencies,” said Noel White, President of Poultry for Tyson Foods, according to the Harrison Daily. “This is the first new plant construction project Tyson Foods has proposed to build in a number of years and we’re thankful we can partner with Carroll County and the AEDC [Arkansas Economic Development Commission] to invest in our home state.”
As we previously reported, the investment into the state would further strengthen Tyson’s operations as the new facility will increase productions for the company’s poultry plant, located across the street from the new location, which produces partially cooked chicken products for foodservice and retail.
This new $136 million plant will boost Tyson’s partially cooked capacities, and increase effenciences by reducing transportation need from the existing plant to other locations for further processing.
Further improvements to Tyson’s operations will include new equipment and production lines, and technology and other processes to bolster food, quality, and workplace safety. There are also plans to reportedly connect the two proximal facilities with a corridor.
Tyson expects the plant project to be completed in late 2017, and to create around 85 jobs. The Harrison Daily reported that the plant will not change the number of chickens grown for operations in Carroll County.
The respective green light for the project was partially given once approval of tax abatements was given from the Carroll County Quorum Court, as well as sales and tax credits received from the AEDC.
