Tyson Foods to Invest 59 Million Dollars to Expand Distribution Center

MACON, GA
Wednesday, June 21st, 2017

The state of Georgia is Tyson Food’s latest target for expansion, with the protein purveyors announcing a 152,000-square-foot addition to its distribution center in Macon. The project, which will begin this summer, will help grow the company’s retail and foodservice capabilities throughout North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, and Alabama.

Gregg Uecker, Senior Vice President of Network Planning and Integration, Tyson Foods

“The expansion of our Macon distribution center is part of our focus on continuous improvement and commitment to customer service,” said Gregg Uecker, Senior Vice President of Network Planning and Integration. “This expansion will allow us to ship our complete portfolio of protein-packed brands to customers from one distribution center, while also improving team member safety and reducing our carbon footprint. It's great news for our customers, our community, our team members, and our environment.”

Upon Tyson’s announcement, Georgia Department of Economic Development Commissioner Pat Wilson and Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert both praised the company for its commitment to the local community, noting that the move would bring a significant boost to the region's economy.

“Congratulations to Tyson Foods, Inc. on this expansion news,” Wilson shared in a press release. “Not only is this announcement a win for Macon, but for the entire state. The growth of our existing industries is critically important to our state’s overall economic well-being. I am confident that Tyson Foods will not only meet, but exceed the needs of their customers with this expansion.”

Tyson expects its expansion to be completed in late 2018, with the investment leading to more than 100 jobs potentially. When all is said and done, total employment at the distribution center will be nearly 240 workers.
