Tyson Foods is looking to build a new facility to enhance efficiencies and improve its product mix.
The new building, a 200,000-square-foot project costing the company approximately $136 million, would be near its existing poultry plant in Green Forest, Arkansas.
“This is the first new plant construction project Tyson Foods has proposed to build in a number of years and we’re hopeful we can partner with Carroll County and the AEDC to invest in our home state,” Noel White, President of Poultry for Tyson Foods, said in a press release.
The project, Tyson stated, is contingent (in part) on the approval of certain tax abatements from the Carroll County Quorum Court, as well as sales and use tax credits from the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC).
The facility would add about 85 more jobs to the city’s market, where it already employs 1,250 in a populace of nearly 3,000, according to Arkansas Online. It would, in fact, be connected to that plant by a corridor, while the new building would be constructed across the street.
Tyson added that improvements would include new equipment and production lines, plus processes and technology to benefit food safety, quality, and workplace safety.
This latest facility would increase Tyson’s partially cooked capacity, reducing transportation needs, but would not change the amount of chickens raised for operations in Carroll County.
If approved, Tyson could begin construction as early as this summer, with the project set for completion in late 2017.
