Western’s Smokehouse has secured a new Safe Quality Food (SQF) Level 2 certification for its processing of meat snacks.

“Achieving SQF certification demonstrates our continued commitment to providing premium quality meat snacks for our partners and customers,” announced Kevin Western, Chief Operating Officer, in a press release.

The certification, given by the SQF Institute under the Global Food Safety Initiative Edition 7.2., is achieved for notable food safety and quality control practices, according to the company.

Those receiving certification undergo a third-party audit by quality inspectors, confirming proper food safety programs. Programs evaluated within each company receiving certification include:

  • Personnel practices
  • Plant maintenance and cleanliness
  • Food defense plan
  • Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) plans

“This is an accomplishment of which all of our employees can be proud, and we look forward to continued growth in the meat snack category,” added Western.
