As we all know, it takes an industry to help consumers through a holiday season. While Passover is still a few months away (April 19), family-owned food manufacturer Kayco and Ravitz Family Markets, a family-owned business that owns and operates five ShopRites and is a member of Wakefern Food Corp., are gearing up for another year of Passover promotions, item selections, and merchandising programs.
“Around 30 years ago, products imported from Israel were scarce, but on the verge of wide importation to the U.S., Steve Ravitz of Ravitz Family Markets recognized the demand for such products and was at the forefront of that push to get those products in store,” recalled Harold Weiss, Kayco’s Executive Vice President, recounting the family-owned nature the two companies share. “I pushed carriages (shopping carts) in the 1970’s for Inserra Supermarkets, Inc., which today operates 23 ShopRite stores in New Jersey and New York. I remember Larry Inserra Sr. vividly. He was great to work for and today his children and grandchildren operate the Inserra family ShopRite stores.”
Kayco and Ravitz Family Markets have partnered together for the past 30 years, a partnership that has produced a bounty of product offerings for consumers shopping for Passover. According to a press release, this has included the likes of well-known brands Yehuda, Elite, and Lipton Kosher (from Unilever), and thousands of other popular and innovative products.
“The ShopRite Passover program is second to none and our ShopRite in Cherry Hill, NJ, has everything for Passover and a great kosher selection all year long,” said Brett Ravitz, son of Steve Ravitz and Vice President of Merchandising, noting the wide variety of Kosher products, including those imported from Israel, ShopRite offers. “We are always looking to expand our selection of kosher foods and groceries to meet the needs of our customers. We have a great selection, great prices, and a great partnership with Kayco, and it’s really rewarding to work so closely with another family-owned business.”
And, as both companies continue to prepare for this year’s Passover season, both Weiss and Ravitz are feeling positive about what’s to come.
“We are thankful for the support we receive from ShopRite owner operators such as the Saker, Glass, McMenamin, and Sumas families and many more, and we look forward to another wonderful Passover season with family and friends!” Weiss concluded.
