Vienna Beef, Chicago’s legendary manufacturer of beef hot dogs, sausages, and other premium food products, will celebrate its 125th anniversary with an afternoon of hot dogs, history, and hoopla on August 1. From 10:30am to 1:30pm, Vienna Beef will host an anniversary celebration at its Factory Store and Café at 2501 N. Damen Avenue. The public is invited to tour the Vienna Beef Hot Dog History Museum, enjoy Chicago Style hot dogs, and participate in exclusive activities that celebrate the iconic Chicago company.
The Vienna Beef hot dog made its debut at the storied 1893 Chicago World’s Fair/Columbian Exposition at a stand operated by Austrian-Hungarian immigrants Emil Reichel and Samuel Ladany. Over decades of success, Vienna Beef franks became the foundation for the classic Chicago Style hot dog enjoyed throughout the country and around the world. A unique combination of colors, textures, and savory flavors, a true Vienna Beef Chicago Style dog is topped with yellow mustard, chopped white onion, bright green relish, sliced tomatoes, a kosher pickle, sport peppers, and a dash of celery salt, all nestled in a steamed poppy seed bun.
Vienna Beef’s 125th anniversary celebration will emphasize the company’s deep roots in the Chicago community. Highlights of the celebration include:
“We’re honored by the community’s enthusiasm surrounding Vienna Beef’s 125th anniversary,” says Jim Bodman, Vienna Beef Chairman and CEO. “We’ve had an outstanding response to our History Museum, with fans coming through every day to share their memories. Our celebration on August 1 is a chance to thank our dedicated hot dog stand owners, loyal customers, and the entire Chicagoland community. We’re looking forward to a great Chicago Style celebration.”
