Aldi is joining the likes of Kroger and Publix in bridging the gap between the buy- and supply-sides in an effort to support farmers. The discount grocer is supporting British beef farmers and finding a way to sell their surplus product by agreeing to buy additional volumes for its meat program, according to a report by Retail Times.

Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Corporate Buying, Aldi“Aldi is committed to supporting British producers, which is particularly important during these difficult times. The strong performance of the fresh meat category in our business shows the level of customer demand for quality British products,” said Julie Ashfield, Managing Director of Corporate Buying.

In the United Kingdom, according to the news source, Aldi is one of the fastest growing fresh meat retailers, making its latest move a strategic one among protein producers as it builds out its grocery supply chain.

With additional volume now in its stores, Aldi is also being strategic about making sure this extra product makes its way into consumer shopping carts.

“We believe the continuing good weather is a positive opportunity to drive British meat for barbecues and we’re putting marketing investment behind these products,” added Ashfield.

As more grocery retailers make major moves to support farmers, producers, and supply-side operators during this uncertain time, Deli Market News will continue to provide the industry with the latest news.
