Amazon has the Indian market in its sights, and the retail giant is making bold moves as its operation, Amazon Web Services (AWS), aims to expand its services to include another infrastructure region in India by mid-2022.

Peter DeSantis, Senior Vice President of Global Infrastructure and Customer Support, Amazon Web Services“Businesses in India are embracing cloud computing to reduce costs, increase agility, and enable rapid innovation to meet the needs of billions of customers in India and abroad,” said Peter DeSantis, Senior Vice President of Global Infrastructure and Customer Support. “Together with our AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region, we’re providing customers with more flexibility and choice, while allowing them to architect their infrastructure for even greater fault tolerance, resiliency, and availability across geographic locations.”

According to a press release, the new AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region demonstrates Amazon’s continuing investment in India. In 2016, when AWS Asia Pacific (Mumbai) Region opened, customers were immediately able to save costs, accelerate innovation, increase the speed-to-market of new products and services, and expand its geographic infrastructure footprint in minutes.

Amazon Web Services has announced that it plans to offer its services in another infrastructure region in India by the middle of 2022

In 2020, the retailer invested in the Indian retail chain MORE and announced plans to introduce 1 million jobs to the country, as reported on our sister site AndNowUKnow. However, Walmart is also putting pieces in motion in India as well. Arguably one of Amazon’s biggest competitors, the retailer has lead investment rounds for its Indian-based business, Flipkart, and made strategic investments to further solidify its presence in the region.

How will the competition play out in this dynamic region? And s Amazon builds its grocery platform in India, will we see more locations pop up in more global markets? Deli Market News will follow the retail trail.
