The prowess of the cheese sector has surely been showcased after an exciting industry gathering. The American Cheese Society (ACS) Judging & Competition (J&C) recently wrapped up two days of judging at the Huntington Bank Stadium at the University of Minnesota. At the event, 30 judges examined a total of over 1,350 cheeses across 120 categories to determine “Best of Show.”
“J&C is a momentous event for cheesemakers who collectively and continually advance the quality of American cheese,” commented Lynn Giacomini Stray, the Board President of ACS, on the recent judging display that took place from May 19–20, 2022. “They also get the opportunity for valuable feedback from expert judges.”
According to a press release, the ACS Competition spotlights American cheesemakers by showcasing their talents as industry leaders, both for their excellent cheesemaking and commitment to food safety. An evolution from the 89 entries received 39 years ago, the ACS J&C welcomed cheeses and cultured dairy products from 206 companies this year.
This year’s winners of J&C will be announced at the Award Ceremony during the 39th ACS Annual Conference, held in Portland, Oregon, from July 20–23, 2022, which will gather artisan cheesemakers, industry professionals, purchasers, and influencers from the United States, Canada, and Europe.
