It’s getting spicy in the date category. Why, you ask? Because Bard Valley Natural Delights® has joined with Tajín to launch new Medjool Date Strips with Chile Lime.
“Part of our strategic efforts to make the category more inclusive include developing innovative products that combine people’s favorite flavor profiles, like sweet and spicy, to give an entry point into the category,” shared David Baxter, Director of Marketing. “We’re excited to offer new consumers the opportunity to experience and fall in love with Medjool dates in this unique way, while giving our die-hard fans something fun and fresh to try as well.”
Tapping into a trending flavor profile, the product marries sweet and spicy to drive in-store demand. DLG Research in 2021 shows that Tajín boosted produce sales by 46 percent when merchandised next to produce items. To capitalize on this consumer trend, the new product’s packaging prominently showcases the Tajín bottle and fresh Medjool dates to inspire purchases.

While developing the new product, Natural Delights conducted consumer research with focus groups by third-party Moms Meet℠, according to a press release. Ninety-three percent of participants gave the product a 4-star review or higher, and 96 percent of participants stated that they would recommend the product.
To further back this exciting launch, the date provider is partnering with influencers, registered dietitians, and media to spread the word and increase retail demand. Retailers can also harness merchandising displays and POS materials to further elevate the product in the produce section.
