Burger King to Sell Upside Down Whopper

Stranger Things has taken over consumer consciousness, Demogorgon style. Not only are people happily adopting 80s fashion trends—hello Steve’s fine feathery hair and my attempt to recreate Eleven’s punk look—it looks like restaurants are now getting in on the fun.

Burger King, CNN Business reported, has partnered with Netflix to bring the Upside-Down Whopper to life. It’s a simple construction, simply serve the bottom of the bun on the top of the burger and the top of the bun on the bottom. But when paired with 80s-era Burger King packaging and a cult hit show, the results are radical.

The burger will be sold in select markets beginning June 21; Stranger Things premieres July 4. Several U.S. cities will be home to this gnarly—read, good—burger: Miami, Houston, Boston, Atlanta, Dallas, Philadelphia, Chicago, San Francisco, New York, and Los Angeles. These restaurants will have limited-edition ketchup packets and Stranger Things inspired t-shirts.

I do have to take a moment to speculate whether the Upside-Down Whopper may become impossible—as Burger Kings in the Bay Area of California are now selling meatless Impossible Whoppers. Could this be the next step?

Deli Market News will continue to report on all pop culture trends as they relate to our industry.
