Carr Valley Cheese Announces 2019 World Cheese Award Wins

LA VALLE, WI
Tuesday, October 29th, 2019

Spooky season coupled with cheese award season? I must be in heaven. Fellow cheese lovers will be happy to celebrate with me, and all us trade writers at Deli Market News, for Carr Valley Cheese Co. took home 10 awards at the World Cheese Awards.

Sid Cook, Owner and Master Cheesemaker, Carr Valley Cheese“Whenever we take home an award for our cheeses, the whole company celebrates,” Sid Cook, Owner and Master Cheesemaker, expressed. “All of our employees contribute to the success of a product, so it’s exciting for everybody when we’re recognized on a global stage.”

For the past twelve years, Carr Valley has placed at the World Cheese Awards, earning a total of over 70 wins. This year, its Gran Canaria® earned “Super Gold.” This specialty cheese is made with local sheep, goat, and cow milk, and is then cured in olive oil and carefully aged for at least two years. Cook noted that this cheese has been a judges’ favorite, winning awards like “Best of Show” at American Cheese Society and “Best of Class” at the U.S. Championship Cheese Contest. He describes the cheese as a pale straw color with an intense, nutty, and sweet flavor and recommends pairing it with red wine or scotch.

Carr Valley Cheese's Gran Canaria® earned “Super Gold” this year

This is Carr Valley’s seventh “Super Gold” awarded variety. Past winners have included Cave Aged Marisa (2018), Shepherd’s Blend (2017), Smoked Billy Blue (2015), Billy Blue (2013), Cave Aged Marisa (2013), and Cardona (2011).
