Carr Valley Cheese Co. traveled across the pond recently to Nantwich, England, to the International Cheese and Dairy Awards, and it came back with a major haul. The cheesemaker brought home 17 awards from the prestigious competition, including the “The Reefer 90s Award Best USA Cheese” for its Gran Canaria®.

The mixed milk recipe provides distinct nutty and fruity notes with added complexities from being cured in olive oil,” said Sid Cook, Owner and Master Cheesemaker, who is certified in making Gran Canaria. “I love it grated over pasta or soup, and it pairs perfectly with a glass of Pinot Noir. Truly one of the greatest champions in our line.”

According to the release, the Gran Canaria is one of Carr Valley’s American Original recipes. This is Carr Valley’s third year entering the competition, and the company is thrilled to have been awarded Best USA Cheese for its Gran Canaria.

Established in 1897, the competition pulls entries from around the world. The event had over 5,500 cheese entries and featured 240 judges across 300 categories.

The cheesemaker brought home 19 awards from the prestigious competition, including the “The Reefer 90s Award Best USA Cheese” for its Gran Canaria®

On top of Best USA Cheese, Carr Valley also received awards for its other cheeses, including Ba Ba Blue (1st place), Cave Aged Marisa (3rd place), Fontina (3rd place), Glacier Blue (2nd place), Wildfire Blue (1st place), and Gran Canaria (1st place). Additionally, the cheesemaker won the top two awards in the Best New Dairy Product category for Blue Spruce Blue (1st place) and Boozin Billy (2nd place).

Carr Valley’s other 2022 International Cheese and Dairy Award wins include Billy Blue (1st place), Glacier Smoked Blue (1st place), Ba Ba Blue (2nd place), Smoked Marisa (2nd place), Smoked Gouda (2nd place), Smoked Fontina (2nd place), Garlic Bread Cheese (2nd place), and Blue Spruce Blue (3rd place).
