New year, new sales results. Costco Wholesale Corporation is kicking off 2023 with a strong start, reporting net sales of $16.84 billion for the four weeks that ended January 29, 2023. This impressive performance represents a 6.9 percent increase from the $15.76 billion reported last year.
For the 22 weeks that ended January 29, 2023, Costco recorded net sales of $99.00 billion, an increase of 7.5 percent from $92.10 billion last year.
In addition to a rise in net sales, Costco also noted comparable sales of 6.6 percent for the United States, 2.4 percent for Canada, 3.9 percent internationally, and 5.6 percent for the total company, according to a press release.
The grocer also noted that Lunar New Year occurred 10 days earlier this year, on January 22, 2023, which negatively impacted the retailer’s January Other International and Total Company sales by approximately 2 percent and 0.25 percent, respectively.
Costco currently operates 848 warehouses, including 584 in the United States and Puerto Rico, 107 in Canada, 40 in Mexico, 31 in Japan, 29 in the United Kingdom, 18 in Korea, 14 in Taiwan, 14 in Australia, four in Spain, two each in France and China, and one each in Iceland, New Zealand, and Sweden. The retailer also operates e-commerce sites in the U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, and Australia.
