Innovative packaging and high-quality olives are driving growth for Ficacci. David Dottorini, Export Manager, took a moment to pull back the curtain on everything going on with the company at this time.

David Dottorini, Export Manager, Ficacci Olive Company“Ficacci stands out in the industry through several key aspects of our products and processes: The company specializes exclusively in fresh olives, consciously avoiding pasteurization; its production plants are certified under BRC and IFS standards; we offer a wide variety of high-quality Italian and Mediterranean fresh table olives; and renowned as a trendsetter in the industry, Ficacci continues to introduce innovative and sustainable packaging solutions,” David began telling me. “By focusing solely on fresh olives and steering clear of pasteurization and preservatives, Ficacci's products are known for being fresh, crunchy, and exceptionally flavorful.”

Ficacci initially introduced a sustainable packaging solution called the Paper Tray, designed for the United States market. This tray features a recyclable paper bottom and a removable plastic film, all presented in a sleek design that encourages consumers to bring it directly to their tables.

A renowned trendsetter in the industry, Ficacci offers a wide variety of high-quality Italian and Mediterranean fresh table olives

“In a subsequent effort, Ficacci developed a sustainable party platter weighing 1.65 lb, intended for club stores. This platter is made with 89 percent paper and includes three different varieties of pitted olives, packed in a liquidless format and free of preservatives,” David continued. “Currently, Ficacci has created a smaller version called the Mini Paper Tray Trio, which weighs 7.5 oz. This compact tray comes in two varieties: one with three pitted olives and the other with three unpitted olives, both maintaining the same sustainable characteristics and the same sleek outfit.”

Looking toward current challenges, David and I also discussed the impact of rising tariffs.

The brand will be showcasing its innovative portfolio during this year’s Summer Fancy Food Show

“Recent tariff increases could negatively impact our business, as they may lead to higher import costs. This reduced our profit margins and forced us to raise prices to offset the impact on retail prices,” David explained. “We sincerely hope the current U.S. government will reconsider its stance on these tariffs, keeping the U.S. business a healthy business for Ficacci as it is today.”

On a final note, I asked David about Ficacci’s participation in summer trade shows.

“Food shows such as IDDBA and SFFS serve several purposes, showcasing products to a large audience—potential buyers, distributors, and food industry professionals. These shows also offer opportunities to introduce our new sustainable products, announce special deals, and increase business with existing and new customers,” David concluded.
