Giant Eagle is seeking to transform the brick-and-mortar experience. In a partnership with Grabango, a checkout-free technology provider, the retailer is working toward a no-wait checkout experience.
“Giant Eagle is committed to advancing technologies that create an improved, stress-free shopping experience for our customers while still protecting their privacy,” said Giant Eagle’s Director of Corporate Communications, Dan Donovan. “In Grabango, we have found a partner who shares our commitment and who can help us bring this enhanced experience to life.”
According to a press release, this partnership builds on Giant Eagle’s commitment to invest in the latest technology in the grocery world. Grabango’s platform is designed to operate across Giant Eagle’s multi-format footprint.
Customers will enter the store and immediately start shopping. There won't be any obstacles in their way, such as turnstiles or memberships. The checkout-free system automatically keeps a running total of the items each shopper selects.

Grabango’s platform is currently installed at a pilot Giant Eagle location. Multiple executions of this checkout-free tech is being optimized. One such solution is app-based, while the other allows the customer to pay with any tender they wish.
