Sixty years ago in the La Mancha region of Spain, a young Hersilio Garcia Baquero began selling fresh milk and handmade cheeses from his small livestock farm. Now, six decades later, Garcia Baquero has become one of the largest producers of Spanish cheese globally. The cheesemaker is celebrating its 60th anniversary by looking back at all it has accomplished.
“We are passionate about cheese,” said Chief Executive Officer Miguel Angel Garcia Baquero. “In this family, we have dedicated our lives to cheese: that of our grandfather, parents, and now, ours. It is our family culture, our ethics, and our gift to the world.”
Garcia Baquero’s Queso Manchego and Iberico cheeses are handcrafted using milk from indigenous sheep grazing on the mineral-rich pastures of Castilla, La Mancha. Cultivating its own starter cultures, Garcia Baquero produces award-winning cheeses with rich, complex flavor profiles and textures.
“Garcia Baquero has won numerous international awards,” Baquero continued. “Most recently, their Iberico and Manchego won Best in Class at the World Championship Cheese contest. Garcia Baquero cheeses are made with traditional recipes that pay homage to the Spanish terroir.”
The 2020 World Championship Cheese Contest Award winners are as follows:
The company exports to more than 60 countries and is known for standing out among cheeses from all over the world. The second generation continues the family traditions with enthusiasm and passion, continuing the values and culture of the company. As the company lives on, Baquero noted that continued growth through innovation is top of mind.
Cheers to 60 years!
