At the end of the day, there’s nothing like a nice cut of premium ham to uplift one’s spirits. Principe Foods understands that notion, but wanted to take it a step further. Blending Italian expertise with American pride, the meat curator formed a dynamic partnership with Eatalian Café and Costco to provide 1,000 free sandwich meals to Gardena, California. This brings the total tally to 6,000 sandwiches donated over the course of five weeks when many could use a tasty pick-me-up.

Alexsandro Orlando, Brand Ambassador, Principe Foods“Staying proactive and relevant is the best way forward in these difficult times. I’ve extended my hand to help over 6,000 people get food,” Alexsandro Orlando, Principe’s Brand Ambassador, tells me. “This wouldn’t have been successful without the team effort of Principe and Eatalian Café.”

The joint venture is made possible with the help of Antonio Pellini, Owner of Eatalian Café. Each sandwich uses provolone cheese, spring mix, and house-made Ciabatta bread and artichoke spread from Eatalian and Principe’s Prosciutto Cotto as the savory center.

Falling in line with the warehouse retailer’s strategy to bolster its communities, Costco teamed up with these inspiring chefs to help the event succeed. The retailer also helped sponsor the event by donating chips to round off the tasty meals.

Antonio Pellini, Owner, Eatalian Café“I am thankful to the city of Gardena for giving me the opportunity to have operated a successful restaurant for many years, and I knew it was time to give back,” Antonio expresses. “I wake up every morning with the excitement of feeding people. I am just grateful we can help.”

So far, this wonderful partnership has provided thousands of meals to hospitals, police departments, fire departments, and the local community. And it doesn’t seem like that streak of selfless giving isn’t stopping anytime soon—for the next event, Principe and Eatalian Café will be spreading more love at Torrance Memorial Hospital.

Times like these, where businesses band together to help their local communities, instills in me a sense of joy and pride to be able to report the many great stories our industry has to offer. Deli Market News will continue to bring the latest updates, so keep checking back as we ride this wave together.
