Blue cheese is a living, breathing life form, cracking open with beautiful blue veins that amplify its flavor and add complexity to any dish or cheese board. Shaft’s Cheese & Co is well known for its aged blue cheese offerings, and the maker recently expanded its footprint. Shaft’s aged blue cheese will now be available on the shelves of Safeway grocery stores.
“We’re thrilled to be in Safeway. Our vision for Shaft’s and its growth is really happening now, and we’re just getting started,” John Gibson, Owner, commented, noting how this recent expansion is sure to lead to long-term growth for the cheesemaker.
Shaft’s one year aged blue and Serendipity cheeses can now be found in Safeway grocery stores across California, making its cheeses more accessible to the community. The cheesemaker has had selling relationships with over 100 independent grocers, as well as distributing to larger retail stores like Nugget Markets and Whole Foods Market, and most recently Raley’s. Landing on Safeway shelves is a huge milestone in Shaft’s expansion.
With Safeway having over 243 grocery stores throughout California, Shaft’s Cheese will be able to reach even more people and extend its cheeses to new communities, a press release explained. The cheeses will be offered in pre-packaged 6 oz wedges, making the distribution process and consumer purchasing decisions easy. These wedges make for the perfect cheese board accompaniment this holiday season, as well as garnishes and casual snacking.
“We’re so thankful for the support of our local and extended community. Hearing how much people love our cheese just makes us so happy,” Andrea Whitfield, Marketing Director, commented, emphasizing the importance of this most recent retail expansion.
Shaft’s makes every step of its operations, from distributing to consuming, with the community in mind. Now that its cheese is accessible in Safeway stores, the team is excited to extend their reach to even more people and to aid in bringing people together to enjoy their fare and experience blue cheese in an entirely new way.
