SpartanNash Reveals Promotion of David Petko to Executive Vice President, Chief Supply Chain Officer; Tony Sarsam Comments

A noteworthy leader amidst SpartanNash’s ranks has attained a new title, adding to his duties. David Petko, current Senior Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer, has recently been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Supply Chain Officer.

David Petko, Executive Vice President, Chief Supply Chain Officer, SpartanNashComing on board with SpartanNash in April 2021, Petko originally oversaw all aspects of the company’s global supply chain. This aspect consisted of over 145 company-owned stores, over 2,100 independent retailers and national accounts throughout the United States, and U.S. military commissaries and exchanges.

Petko played a critical role in the grocer's transformation strategy, as he successfully launched a comprehensive supply chain transformation initiative to drive savings, optimize the network footprint, and rationalize SKUs, according to a press release. He also helped lead a new agreement with Coastal Pacific Food Distributors to expand the retailer’s distribution footprint on the West Coast while simultaneously reducing fleet mileage by 10 percent. The supply chain initiative is expected to realize cost savings of $15 million to $30 million.

With 25 years of supply chain and distribution logistics experience under his belt, Petko has a proven track record of transformational leadership and improved customer and associate satisfaction. Previously, he served as Senior Vice President of Supply Chain for C&S Wholesale Grocers, where he worked to increase operational efficiencies as well as safety, associated engagement, customer focus, and innovative problem-solving throughout its supply chain.

During his 11-year career with the grocer, Petko held the position of Regional Vice President of Operations 2014–2019, Senior Director ES3/D2S 2013–2014, Director of Operations 2012–2013, and General Manager 2009–2012 of two of its facilities.
