Slow down and enjoy your tacos. At least that’s the message Taco Bell is seeking to portray with its new up-scale interior designs for the chain. The sleek and modern designs will begin testing this summer in four varieties.

"We hope that we see a renewed interest in actually using it as a place to go out to dinner versus picking up convenience and food to go home," said Deborah Brand, Vice President of Development and Design.

In a statement to USA Today, the company said that the chain will feature the following design choices:

  • Sleek, modern seating
  • Exposed wooden beams
  • Trendy light fixtures

These changes, will mark a distinguished change from the fluorescent lighting, and the neon purple color scheme which has been associated with the chain for years. Certain test stores will also feature other design choices, like the large patio and cushioned furniture that will be seen in one California store.

Although Taco Bell’s main food hype comes from the lunchtime run, the company is hoping to take its success from the newer breakfast market and translate it into a new trend success of dine-in dinner for fast food. In a further change, Taco Bell is hoping to get customers out of their cars, and the drive-thru, and into its enticing seating for a more intimate meal and ambience.

Wally Krantz, Executive Director at brand consulting firm Landor, said in a statement to USA Today, “It’s a lot more inviting. Those kinds of details are trying to halo into, 'our beef is good, our vegetables are fresh."

Eight stores will feature the updated designs, with half of that number being brand new stores. Eventually, the company has plans to update each of its 7,250 stores around the world. Taco Bell said that each location will customizable by the store’s location, making them more appealing to each community.

DeliMarket News will continue to have the latest in re-design concepts and industry innovations.
