Walmart Tests Foodservice Robot "Flippy" For In-Store Delis

Service delis at local Walmart locations could get quite a bit more futuristic in the near future. The retailer is reportedly in the early stages of testing a robotic kitchen assistant named “Flippy” at its Bentonville, Arkansas, headquarters.

According to a report by Yahoo! Finance, Flippy is the world’s first autonomous robotic kitchen assistant. The Miso Robotics-developed robot first made headlines last year, flipping 300 burgers a day at CaliBurger locations.

Flippy also touched down at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, frying up chicken tenders and tater tots. Throughout the course of the World Series, Flippy churned out 17,000 pounds worth of the fried foods.

Walmart reportedly took note of the feat, bringing Flippy to its Bentonville Culinary Institute and Innovation Center for a trial.

Could Flippy be slinging protein in Walmart locations nationwide? Read Yahoo! Finance’s report for more details, and check back with Deli Market News for updates.
