As Fairway continues to work on its comeback from last year’s Chapter 11 bankruptcy, the chain has changed up leadership with retail veteran Abel Porter stepping in as President and CEO.
The retailer confirmed with Deli Market New’s sister publication AndNowUKnow that reports of the executive replacing outgoing leader Jack Murphy are accurate.
Fairway has made no secret of working tirelessly on a turnaround since announcing a reorganization plan to cut its debt in half last June.
As he takes the helm, Porter brings experience in both the buy-side and leadership. The veteran worked almost 20 years with Smith’s Food and Drug, retiring as CEO and President, and is also the former President of Foodland Supermarkets.
Now operating 17 locations in the New York area, according to its website, Porter takes up the torch Murphy originally held as he came in to get the company out of cost and sale hardships in 2014.
With the foundation laid, what will we see from the retailer in the months to come? Deli Market News will bring you the latest.
