Albertsons to Remodel Last Three Florida Stores as Safeways

Wednesday, January 13th, 2016

Floridians – make way for Safeway; this retailer is coming soon.

Three Albertsons stores in Florida will be converted to Safeway locations as part of a $10 million investment.

These three stores also happen to be the remaining Albertsons in the state, located in Largo, Altamonte Springs, and Fort Lauderdale.

Sidney Hopper, President, Albertsons Cos. Houston Division“When complete, our new Safeway locations will have contemporary décor packages, new digital signs and menu boards, a natural/organic zone, and living well products,” said Sidney Hopper, President of the Houston division of Albertsons Cos., according to the Tampa Bay Times.

Though Albertsons had once held a significant presence in the area with more than 100 stores, the company had shut down most of them in recent years. This move will add a new market to Safeway, which already has stores in:

  • California
  • Alaska
  • Arizona
  • Colorado
  • District of Columbia
  • Idaho
  • Delaware
  • Hawaii

Albertsons and Safeway anticipate keeping the stores open during the remodeling, which should be completed by this spring.
