Amazon Looks to Add 30,000 Part Time Jobs Over the Next Year

Thursday, April 6th, 2017

Already with sights set on adding 100,000 full-time, benefited jobs in the U.S. by 2018, Amazon is looking to up the ante with an additional 30,000 part-time positions over the coming year.

Tom Weiland, Vice President for Worldwide Customer Service, Amazon"There are lots of people who want or need a flexible job—whether they’re a military spouse, a college student, or a parent—and we’re happy to empower these talented people no matter where they happen to live,” said Vice President for Worldwide Customer Service, Tom Weiland, in a release.

The retailer offers benefits to those who work 20 hours a week or more, which it stated upwards of 70% of its part-timers do. Amongst these are its Career Choice program, which pre-pays 95% of tuition for courses in high-demand fields, regardless of relevancy to Amazon.

25,000 of the part-time positions would be “across its network of sortation and fulfillment centers” where much of its packaging sorting and consolidation takes place.

In five years, Amazon has grown its workforce from 56,000 full- and part-time employees to more than 341,000 by the end of 2016.
