Blue Apron has unveiled a new strategy for success with its facilities in mind, closing one and moving operations to a bigger site in the future. The meal kit giant has announced that its New Jersey facility will close, with 1,270 jobs moving to the impending site.
Blue Apron stated in a public notice that its current New Jersey facility will close by October of this year. A company spokeswoman said, according to Bloomberg, that the company will move operations to Linden, New Jersey.
The new Linden facility will be the company’s biggest to date, and will include better technology. The facility clocks in at 500,000-square-feet and will need around 2,000 workers when it first opens, with hirings to continue.
The company expects that more than half of its employees at the current facility with move to the new one. Bloomberg reported that 24 percent of the company’s workforce will be affected by the decision.
This growth is not the last for Blue Apron, however. The company also stated that it will open another facility in Fairfield, CA, next year. This news comes off a string of strategic moves by the company, including its IPO, an acquisition, executive appointments, and new Board of Directors.
