DeliMarket News Explores Nugget Markets

SACRAMENTO, CA

To see how to snag those impulse purchases, step into a Nugget Market and make your way to the deli section.

It won’t be difficult, it’s bound to be in prime store real estate, easily visible with artistic, colorful displays. If that’s not enough, the large ceramic cow will be your guide.

While deli items are often tucked in a corner, with cheese and other dairy products in the back of the store, a trip to my local Nugget revealed an approach much like that seen at Winter Fancy Food Show displays, placing them in the front-and-center of store to invite shoppers.

A kitchen square sat surrounded by cheeses placed next to complimenting books, chocolates, and other well crossed merchandise, housing a knowledgeable and smiling employee who welcomed me with any information I could want from cheese flavors, to uses, to suppliers.

Not to be outdone by the category, the display fanned out to reveal carefully constructed meats and specialty items, while behind me was a cafe offering sandwiches, lunches, and local company offerings such as ice creams and smoothies.

The entire atmosphere beckoned shoppers from the entrance the way a jazz cafe invites pedestrians in from the cold, right to suppliers' items sold at prime presentation.

With a warm balance of artistic and homey, I invite others to take a look at Nugget’s approach on delivering deli to the consumer.
